mLearning

mLearning (or mobile learning) is learning through a personal device, such as tablets and smart phones. As these devices become more and more prevalent in our present day culture, we can only assume that they will continue to be an integral part of our future culture. As such, it only makes common sense that we incorporate these devices into our learning environments. There are 5 elements that have come together to make this type of learning possible: price performance, wireless networking, cloud computing, responsive HTML 5 and great apps.
The fifth element — great apps — is what we focused on in EDU 210 this week. We were to make a digital flyer about 5 great apps for learning. I chose to use Tackkboard over Smore because I liked the social networking feel that the site portrayed. Further, I liked how sequential the making if the board was — all I had to do was follow their template. I decided to choose apps that were appropriate for the K-3 setting as that is where I hope to be in the future. In my search for apps for this level, I stumbled upon a fantastic site graphite.org. This site is, as they put it, "a free platform from Common Sense Education that saves you time by making it easy to discover the best apps, games, and websites for your classroom". Simple put, I LOVE this site. It has thousands of apps that are reviewed by Graphite as well as teachers. It will be an invaluable resource to have in my future career.
