UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING (UDL) AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR LEARNING

This week in EDU 210 we were introduced to the concept of UDL and the Web 2.0 tools that would help us to remove learning barriers  for our future students. The concept of UDL, in conjunction with assistive technology, is an essential element for pre-service teachers to be aware of as our classrooms will be filled with a wide range of abilities, skills, ways of learning and backgrounds. In order for our whole class to be academically successful, we need to provide diverse teaching methods that will reach all the needs of our students. Thats why Web 2.0 tools are invaluable to the modern classroom -- they have the ability to support multiple ways of learning, especially if you use them in conjuction with other teaching methods.

To get us familiar with these tools, we were asked to create an ebook showcasing some useful (and practical) applications. I chose to use CAST UDL Book Builder. I found that this book builer was a simple but effective way of creating an ebook and can see myself using it to create ebooks for my students to use in their literacy centers.
