THE MAKER MOVEMENT
This week in EDU 210, we had the opprotunity to experience a Maker Day. This was an great hands-on way to understand what the movement is all about as well as see some of the fabuluos technologies that are available for teachers to use in their classroom. I am now curious as to how teachers implemet these various technologies into their classroom and to see first hand the possible learning and engagement that students might have while using some of these tools -- Hopefully one day I can see this in type of learning in action as well as implement it myself in my future classroom!
For our assignment this week we were asked to create a screencast using either Screencast-O-Matic or Quicktime that incorporates four elements:
1. Give a brief description of the Maker Movement
2. Introduce the technology that you found were interesting during your visit to Maker Day.
3. Describe how you would use that product in your classroom, and
4. Explain why you feel having the product in your classroom would be valuable for your students.
I chose to use QuickTime to make my screencast because I already had the application on my comuter and, thus, I was pretty familiar with how it works. However, I had not made a screen recording before, so it took some trial and error (the maker movement in action!) before I felt like I knew how to do a screencast properly. Uploading my video to YouTube was easy as we already had practice doing this for our Smartboard presentation. Hope you enjoy my presentation!
